Is Tae Kwon Do safe for me and/or for my child? Yes! Each Instructor endeavors to make sure that you will be in a safe environment-both physically and emotionally. Each school is a member of the World Martial Arts Association which teaches a non-contact style of Tae Kwon Do. Of course, as with any physical exercise there is always the risk for injury but we strive for a safe, structured environment.
What do I wear to practice? You can purchase an appropriate uniform from your instructor. Until you have the opportunity to purchase one, you may practice in plain (no words or pictures) sweatpants and T-shirts. Note that students practice barefoot. We advise that you remove all jewelry before practice.
How long is each practice? Each practice is varied and each instructor may have a different timeframe so contact your instructor for specifics. Classes for young children may run 20-60 minutes, whereas classes for youth and adult participants can range from 45-75 minutes. Special Practices and Events are also varied and are usually several hours long.
What if I have to rest during practice? Students that need to rest should sit quietly at the side or in the back of class so that he/she does not disturb the other students. If you need medical attention, please notify the Instructor. Please talk to your instructor about your hopes and expectations concerning practice-we can work with you to develop a plan that is right for you!
What if I have prior martial arts experience? We recognize belts from students in the World Martial Arts Association. If you have prior experience from another association you will begin at the white belt level as with all news students in the class. We ask that participants that have knowledge of other martial arts refrain from practicing that material in class even during warming up as it can be quite distracting for other students in the class.
How much does Tae Kwon Do cost? Costs vary across the country and depends on the kind of class or club you join. Details can be given to you by your instructor.
